Epi Log: The latest in Food News, the Culinary Arts & Cooking , Jun 3 2008 Chicago seems to have more than its fill of Tax Day food and drink specials, from money-themed karaoke contests at bars and half-price meals at restaurants to drinks called the "W2" (Jack and Coke), "1099" (vodka tonic) and "IRS" (cosmopolitan).
A bar or two of bacon-flavored chocolate. (Which isn't half bad, by the way.)
7) Bacon is the New Pork Belly: In 2007, pork belly was on almost every restaurant menu. Vosges Mo's Bacon Bar: Leave it to the zany Chicago chocolatier Vosges to add pork products to its bars (they've already done wasabi, Indian curry, and chilis). Having tried my fair share of these bars, my recommendation is for Alter Eco's bars. They are organic, fair trade, support sustainable farming, and have no artificial ingredients. The Dark Blackout 85% chocolate bar in particular is creamy and rich with no bitterness and should satisfy even discriminating chocolate connoisseurs. Try it and you'll see what I mean.

But instead of just melting the butter, I let it cook until the white foam (the milk solids) fell to the bottom of the pot and turned pecan brown (the usual way to describe this is hazelnut brown, but then that begs the question, a peeled or unpeeled hazelnut? Pecans are more a more consistent descriptor).

Epi Log: The latest in Food News, the Culinary Arts & Cooking , Jun 3 2008 As a judge for the Argentine Wine Awards, I'm visiting Mendoza and the rocking cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires for a week. BA has a million little bars, cantinas and restaurants, and a lot of them are wonderful. And then, some are quaint but not necessarily culinary destinations. Still I'd like to add the seafood restaurant Oviedo to your list, if you are headed to Argentina.
